Holo, VSPO, and hell even NijiJP are able to compete because of the box appeal.
In Holo the draw for me is the idolshit, the collabs, the variety segment streams, the interactions between the talents and the evolving narrative that we as viewers also become a part of.
I greatly appreciate Kaela for what she brings to collabs and her interactions with other talents, but I rarely if ever tune into her 16 hour lidl game autismfests. Why the fuck wouldn't I watch fleshtubers on twitch for that sort of content instead?
With regard to indies, and relating to the vtubing vs wrestling metaphor, sure I could enjoy watching some dudes in a backyard doing indie wrestling, and shit would probably be fun, but the dimes and narratives and audience interaction you have in big acts like WWE or NJPW or AEW is what makes shit special to me.
Ironically Dooby herself has it right in her discord rules. You really ought to just treat vtubing as entertainment instead of going too gachikoi.
I also don't understand why shitposters seem to anti Cover, the only real reason I can think of for them to hate them is cause of their numbers
