>>85329751but I'll elaborate. no such law exists. when it comes to US grocery store tomatoes you got four main traits: uniformity, shelf life, disease resistance, flavor. you can only pick three. mass production farmers selectively bred for the first three leaving flavor by the wayside. also in order to maximize shelf life and keep the fruit from rotting in transit, some produce like tomatoes and strawberries are picked unripe and hit with ethylene gas to turn them red on their sometimes thousand or more miles journey from the farms to the grocery. this is why it's always better to grow your own produce to get the highest quality and avoid the nasty produce section offerings. that way you can get seed varieties that didn't go thru the selective breeding process mentioned above. that instead were bred for the best flavor. and can be picked at the peak of ripeness. the 2nd option is getting your produce from farmers markets that also side step the above mass production process. hell I have varieties in my seed collection that predate the aforementioned government regulating body entirely. which doesn't regulate seeds for the home garden. pardon the silly foreigner comment but that's the usual suspect quoting imaginary laws preferring to live in ignorance. pic related, best damn maters you ever had.
