>>99548252We have a vast system of railroads and truckers. Fruit and vegetables are intensively grown in the right places and distributed very widely. Too widely. They have shelf-stable varieties that can maintain their appearance, but taste and smell suffer over the weeks or months it takes to reach consumers. The strawberries we get are just bland and mildly sour.
American growers are very good at what they do and we have tons of great varieties of all sorts of fruits, but none of this stuff can reach consumers. You just have to grow it and enjoy it yourself.
