What you wrote so far seems promising but I'll reserve judgement until later though consider me still hooked, just dial back a bit on the white-knighting or at least give us some more insight on why Anon acts the way he does especially with the whole "coffee elf" thing when he's pretty much fine with slapping her around. As for the fantasy elements I'd say go wild with it as long as it doesn't overpower the main story too much. The skull of whatever it was that Anon killed is pretty high up there in terms of fantasy stuff so I'm curious to see where you go with it especially if the title is more literal in meaning.
Also minor nitpick: Flare's eyes aren't yellow, I'd describe them as a reddish-orange or just plain red but definitely not yellow.
