The Deadsloth question is an interesting one... In terms of ecological niche, I guess they're a bit more similar to bears than to an herbivore, but they don't really hunt much, if there's nothing to scavenge they'll prefer to eat flora. Their closest mainland cousin, the Holocontinent Sloth is also a rather small herbivore, which would put this other species squarely among Lesser Beasts.
Also, I like Niwa's contribution. Fully grown Deadsloths would probably be fine for a decade or two outside of Moriji, but their chuubanite levels running low might have negative effects. The Goddess Faithful would also probably frown upon moving such large chuubanite-filled skeletons outside of the island, it would be tightly regulated at the very least, similar to Mont Mori diamonds.
If you want to imagine fighting a Deadsloth, think of facing an armored elephant with angry skeletons on it and usually a big shoulder-mounted cannon.
So, I guess now we have a good old-fashioned bandit-filled forest road to traverse? Our party wouldn't make for a very vulnerable target, I'd wager. Very RPG-esque scenario, I like it.
