>>62120923I think earlier there was a note that implied the kidnapper guy was horrifically abused by his mother, so he killed her and hid her body in the attic. His "simpleness" is due to brain damage from being beaten brutally (likely with the hammer). The end confrontation with the kid's mother revived his trauma, so he killed her, too.
