Civilization rested on a great many bagholders having kids they did not really want / could care for. You know what the pagans did? Big orgies, and then you raise the offspring as a group, plenty of female and male role models of your own choice, none of that enforced husband and wife for-life garbage. You could be committed to, and/or sleep with, whoever you wanted. Staying together was a choice, not something you had the religious leader and the patriarchs playing politics with your offspring over.
Also, they worshiped Animalistic Gods like Harpy Doki, so that makes them based in my book.
