>>88181099>gameplayit's a TCG and one with some very unfair feeling mechanics at that, also the diversity of formats created some very broken cards. it's PvP so unlike FF14s PvE, that balance actually matters to the enjoyability of the game. this is compounded with the rule sharking, cheating and generally bad sportsman like behaviour that can be performed by people you're playing with
>art stylewhile some of the best art in the game is very good, the majority is shit and exhibits the worst of WotC with both inconsistency and loss of identity
>lore/charactersit's bad as it was never the focus of the game but this was probably expected
>costmagic is a game where you're told it's cheap and easy to get into but a casual deck that you can bring down locals will run you $200 easily and can easily go higher if you're not super aware of the cards that are cheaper. this is only talking about a single deck where if you're playing magic, you're going to be buying more than a single deck
>communityeasily the worst aspect of the game. the main format for magic is commander, a 4 player free for all that's supposed to be fore casuals and be beginner friendly, with a supposed unspoken agreement to play similar power decks to the pod rather than something competitive. this is not the case and some players will choose to play stronger decks than a new player and target them for a whole game. rarely have i had someone who i've played with that wasn't already a friend actually try to help me improve or have a better time despite that being something the community will boast about
>time investment this is likely the only place it will be better than FF14 as you don't need to grind or do raids
