It's more that society as a whole doesn't value hard work and talent and being "just fine" is enough to achieve moderate success. And from then on we're falling into an endless, possibly pointless discussion about objectivism and subjectivism and how to determine if somebody is worthy of success. You'll probably find a few chuubas, games, movies, books, cars, dishes, fucking whatever that you think is basically "overrated", but then you'll ask a few randos about it and they'll just say "i like it" and that's where it ends.
What most people forget about is that humans don't inherently follow logic or meritocracy. It doesn't matter at all if something is actually better than what's currently at the top, if they can't be convinced to change their opinions then you're not getting anywhere.
