Personally, the reason I bring it up is that, while I understand that you don't believe she was sabotaging Advent, that particular rrat is the only ostensible reason that I could see that would logically tie "major event" to "her coming back during said major event seems like a cynical ploy to retain viewers" - because the implication is that this period is one during which she is at a particularly high risk of losing a portion of her audience.
That was why I brought up the point about Gura's return bringing eyes to her new kouhai - which, to give credit where it is due, I'm glad to see you are considering fairly.
As to your ultimate thesis about Gura not first and foremost caring about us one way or another - I actually kind of agree. I've gone "on record" as saying I think she WANTS to care, but doesn't have it in her to do so as much as she probably knows she should. It sounds like (You) and I basically share the same concern, in that respect.
