Iluna and Xsoleil were always going to get a lot of hate no matter if they were the greatest vtubers in the world, which Mari is, but setting that aside to make my point. By the time Iluna debuted there was a pretty large gap after Noctyx and everyone was pretty much set with their oshi, so MORE people joining the fray was always going to be met with frustration no matter who it was, dismissed as people who don't care about Nijisanji or just trying to get in it for the fame. Plus, the fact that they were mixed waves from the beginning means that unicorns were filtered out right from the beginning. There's a certain type of unicorn that likes to ignore certain things, but with the wave being mixed, that's impossible. They are irrevocably linked to the other gender in all senses. So really I'm not surprised Iluna and Xsoleil got so much hate, but it's a shame because none of them deserve it. They simply ended up in the wrong place at the wrong time.
