Now that I think about it, an eye planet is kinda interesting map-wise. I feel like a nation that arose there would naturally draw maps with the poles located at the pupil and at the back of the eye, with an equator around the habitable band, instead of aligning the equator with the rotation axis.
Not sure where I was going with this, but I think that's neat.
The magnetic field would also be aligned with this rotation axis, even if the rotation is slow, right? Since that's where the planetary dynamo comes from. It's funny to think that if you moved straight north in the middle of the habitable band, it would be equivalent to moving alongside a latitude line on Earth, in a way.
