But yeah, I have pretty much the exact same type of dreams very often, so I probably put way too much thought into the idea. There is definitely some optimization going on in the brain that makes it unload the unneeded details to maintain a higher accuracy of the part you're focusing on at the cost of handwaving other things.
Imagination is weird overall, for example I have a good sense for kinesthetics, thus it's easy for me to draw dynamic poses, but I know nothing about how people's faces look, even friends and family, despite being able to recognize them perfectly well even after years.
