For the most part the world is following America's lead and will continue to do so, countries without free speech will continue to be treated as barbaric anywhere the English language is used. Censorship is favored by people without physical and financial power because it's their surrogate form of power, censorship has become an issue because the number of extant votes now vastly outstrips the number of people with sufficient personal power to avoid this psychology. Democracies are meant to be between the investors in them, people who can see reasons to allow many things because they have something to gain by commerce. The way in which Americans are spoiled is that leftist Americans like you can see the default state of human relations as open instead of closed; you're actually standing on the shoulders of giants and are one of the most spoiled brats ever to live.
