The whole field is basically problem-solving by using numbers to simulate concepts. Like how we reduce the boiling point and freezing point of water to 100°C and 0°C.
I don't know, maybe learning how to interpret stuff more abstractly during the beginning of the course which was mostly low level knowledge about computers made it easier to apply the same logic for math later in the course
