I used to travel a lot for work.
When I spoke bad English (Yes I'm an ESL) in English-speaking countries, everybody would still be quite understanding, because it was obvious that I'm a tourist.
Same with me trying to use conversational Nihongo or Korean or
Russian in those countries.
The worst thing that could happen is I’d get gently corrected.
BUT,
If I speak bad French with a French person... may God have mercy upon my soul
