So when Iceborne came out they halfed the amount of damage monsters take from their weaknesses, they then gave you a built-in tool called the "clutch claw" that allows you to latch onto a part of a monster, and do a little attack animation that tenderizes the monster's body part resorting the damage they take back to pre-iceborne levels
