Ok, in the interest of trying to become a better game developer, I decided to actually sit down and write out the spells I want to make and their details instead of coding myself into a corner by writing thousands of lines of code before I've even thought about what the thing was going to do.
I'm planning on 12 spells total, but here are the first 8 (Im thinking maybe the next 4 will be class dependent or something? dont know yet). If anyone sees anything glaringly bad, let me know. The numbers arent set in stone obviously, playtesting will have to happen before we settle on anything, but for now I think these look like what I want the game to play like. The cost letters are the resource types (C: Chuubanite, F: Food, M: Materials)
