I'm thinking similarly to you, either it's accumulating in the hotspot below the volcano in preparation for the endtimes eruption, or it's being pumped straight into Mori to empower her psychopomp activities, or a bit of both. This would be more of a theological discussion at the moment, won't really affect the events of the world.
