-Whether protection is used
Today, things are very different from the 1980s when Freddy was banging random dudes:
Condoms greatly reduce risk
PrEP can reduce risk by about 99% when taken properly
Someone with HIV who is on effective treatment and has an undetectable viral load cannot sexually transmit HIV (this is known as “U=U” Undetectable = Untransmittable).
That being said, the risk is still there:
-HIV is present in semen and vaginal fluids
-The vaginal and cervical tissues can absorb the virus
-(as stated previously) Small microscopic tears can occur during intercourse
-The cervix has immune cells that HIV specifically targets
