I think I might be a little bit of an anomaly, as I'm a bit older, in my 30's that is, and I never really gave a shit about idol culture or liked that kind of music. I got into vTubers around the big explosion in 2020, but was always a bit slow finding ones that actually kept me interested.
Gura of course was immediately to my liking because I just found her voice relaxing and her content was just chill. Also enjoyed Nyanners for a while despite being one of many on this site telling her to stop nameposting and being a cringy idiot, but I laughed at a lot of her purile humor and dumbfuckery.
A lot of other chuubas that have managed to hold my attention seem to be for the humor as well. Some of the Phase Connect talents, for example. Absolutely love Pippa, Tenma, Jelly, and Lumi, all because of their humor and irreverence. I used to like a lot of the talents over at VShojo but as time has gone on I watch less and less of their stuff.
Some stuff that's all over the vTuber scene though I really find pushes me away... The yuribaiting, the "girlfriend experience" shit, the behind the scenes backstabbing a la the recent Sinder drama, fostering communities of absolute gooners, etc.
So, /vt/, what draws you to vtubers, besides the cute anime girl schtick?
