>>15762072Okay, so the reason why lore IS important first of all.
It gives you some basis to spin stories from, and potentially exaggerate them. Nobody cares about the time I went to go see a film and there were weebs there. Instead, spin it as the time you went to see the new footage beamed home from the Enterprise, and there were a bunch of Klingoweebs spouting off gibberish about HONOUR AND BLOODWINE in the atrium. Add in a story about one of them brandishing his (home made) Bat'Leth, and you can fill some time with it.
This serves a secondary purpose - it allows you to add distance and opsec. If I talk about my job at (not really) BofA, then it narrows down who I could be a bit (it might also be against contract, so I'm just hoping I don't get caught). But if I talk about my job in the bureaucracy of the King's Mint, then it keeps who I am outside of streaming a slight step away (best bet would be a completely different day job, like a painter, but then it can be hard to parse the content).
The problem with lore is that, for the most part, people don't care about the character. In fact, they don't always care about YOU as a streamer, but about the stream.
One streamer I watch is Ikumi. She does a LOT of ASMR (she's good at it,although often leans into the GFE side). Over the last month, the lowest she's sat at for peak ASMR in stream is 350. Pretty much every game section (apart from one Phasmo bit, but I think maybe that's either a raid, or SG not updating) either drops to around 200, or doesn't cross that in the first place.

However, when you watch a TV show, do you want a spoken monologue, or a flashback? Which is more interesting to watch?
Lore can be useful, but it's gonna be info-dumped.
I had plans for my lore, and they still sort of are around. But I've realized that my viewers literally do not care about it. Do whatever, I'll still just be an anime person on the internet for them to watch.
Nobody (except one schizo) is saying don't have lore. Feel free to have some. But all the effort involved in making your lore could instead be put towards something that's actually going to benefit you in a more serious way
