The depth in poker comes from the gambling, which only really works if everyone takes it seriously. If you play low or fake stakes with friends who aren't willing to at least pretend to care about winning, they will just all-in constantly and then complain about the game being shit.
Playing chess with friends is great, but it has a different vibe to it, I'd play it in different circumstances. Also Jong being 4 player and more luck based means you can play with people who are at different skill levels and everyone can still have fun. Not many people are ok with you just shitting on them in Chess every game. I still want to get into Go.
Jong is also neat because you can enjoy it for pure gambling of getting big hands or whatever when you're new, where you're just happy to score big or even win a round. So bad players can still enjoy it, but if you get into it there is a lot of things to factor in. It has far more depth than I originally thought it would.
