Look at the Lumi response, it's not just about being an academic, that's 100% doable and academics require moving around for conferences, chasing work, etc. So theoretically she has lots of chances for a partner. The issue is academics have zero job security and shit pay, they may never get tenure and be trapped in the poor paying, stressful, constantly moving for work, unable to start a family lifestyle. Lumi isn't going to go for some broke guy, so what she wants is some Tony Stark CEO billionaire chad scientist and thats not gonna happen.
