>>107563186Anti-paras don't understand that the entire structure of vtubing and basically any streamer who talks to their chat is parasocial in nature. Television is a live stream of shit going on but the narrators are usually not actively talking to the live viewership unless it's one of those shopping channels. And fuck even those sometimes feel vaguely parasocial in nature and nobody even could articulate it. My parents are watching shopping channels for hours every day, they totally had favorites and thought some of the salespeople are nicer or more sincere than others as if they actually-know them. Politicians rely on parasocial shit in favor of substance, yes le orange man is a parasocial fucking beast actually and that is what always made it work for him, feeling relatable. It's literally the 'you'd want to have a beer with him' sentiment, which is what people said about when fucking terrible presidents like Bush back in the day, they just liked him because he felt humble.
That is all parasocial. The word has almost no real strong meaning vs other every day shit, and these zoomer and ignorant millennial faggots don't know and neither do the streamers who parrot each other and really mean to say "fans who care too much" which doesn't truly have a direct word yet. They don't want to say "some of you care way too much about me and you shouldn't" because that sounds accusatory vs "parasocial" sounding like some fancy psychologist diagnosis aka it's only their fault for being like that and the streamer is blameless. Of which vtubers are not at fucking all blameless for being all cutesy and banter with chat. It's just part of the business model for the entire deal.
