>>96719981Alright granted I was spitballing a little and was basing it off my play time (including hours where the game was left running) but if you go back to older games than world, there's far more content in the launch titles. The pacing matters too. You think the only value out of the games is hunting monsters, but I liked MonHun for being a simulator of hunting, theres tons of other action games that already cater to your speed up everything, convenience everything mentality, and the only series in the action genre that did things differently is gone. Thats why stuff like gathering mattered. It also gave small monsters a reason to exist besides set dressing, you couldnt just gather mine things in one swing. Some QoL changed are welcome like not having the pickaxe/bug net system.
Not everything is good though. You know why World had to artificially limit you from Farcasters during Fatalis and add an extra 5 minutes to the normal 30 minute Elder Dragon endgame fights? Becauss they introduced the infinite item box replenishment which makes it pointless to have healing other than max potions. Just farcaster or run away in other hunts and teleport to camp and restock. Mega Potions don't matter. They already killed the challenge back then. Map knowledge doesn't matter now because you don't ever need to gather on a bad hunt or if you forgot to restock items. You won't even acknowledge the difference in map diversity in the world's maps so you're bad faithing and being reductive.
My argument for counters is not reductive when it entirely kills a weapon's identity. Counters were for a few specific weapons, and they didn't need to be on every weapon. It's also just one example, I don't want to sit here pouring over every weapon's issues, I even said at least one (HH) is the best it's ever been. GS and bowguns are both ruined, and some others too, seing 2/3rds of the hunters I know switch to new weapons because their main weapons aren't enjoyable to them anymore is a travesty of game design.
In the old games being downed required monster knowledge on safe windows to get up or stay down, and if you paid attention, you might be able to turn them around into opportunities for openings by utilizing the iframes. Now sekreits can just pick you up for iframes lol. Palico simplification is dogshit, it's imbalanced with how its training wheels on training wheels, before you could at least develop them and use them with specific features that don't have to affect your hunt (i never run healers or trappers, but pilferers or only buffers). Pluck the rookies, not everything is better because more people, and not everything is better because of convenience or a lack of friction. Enjoy the garbage man, and increasingly garbage, samey games because devs are too afraid to experiment and make things interesting for the sake of convenience, while they sell things unoptimized and filled with shitty microtransactions. Next one they'll just make it so you fight monsters in a boss rush, and your palico and mount just gathers for you because it's convenient.
