She straight up begs people to stop sometimes when she just wants to play the fucking game and not interrupt the stream to process the donations going on.
And if you think telling people to stop donating is a big brain move to get more donations everyone else would do it, it would be that easy.
Poma's donations are the result of the fans she managed to tap into. When people joke of "goslings" this is what it truly means, guys that genuinely love the vtuber so much it blinds them. It's not lust, that is easy, people can be horny for anyone. It's like a genuine raw pure love for her that can only come as a result of a sense of intimacy and care towards her. Poma talks a lot about herself, her life, she doesn't try to make herself a victim but she has that sad clown that smiles to be strong vibe, she has a very genuine and humble vibe. That triggers the savior complex harder than anything you could imagine. It makes her seem both real, honest and like you can make a difference.
She also likes to indulge her fans, a lot, but manages to make it come off as genuine because in general she acts like such an open book schizo who just speaks whatever the fuck is on her mind and when she breaks in tears it comes off as real too.
That mix of intimacy with her, feeling like you as part of the fan collective is close to her and she genuinely loves you all and is open and honest with you, combined with the fact that you know she has had a hard time in life but chooses to stay positive is like a recipe to trigger the instinct in plenty men to just grab their wallet and start throwing money at her to make her life better, to give her back some of the love she has given you and to maybe be noticed by her a little more and feel even closer to her.
I don't donate to her personally but I do find vtubers interesting as a subject of study as well as the fans and these are my personal observations of her and her fanbase.
They have a very mutually parasocial relationship but in a very positive way so far. The fact that she already acts kind of like a schizo and a slut might actually help them out in the long term because it means they already saw her flaws early on so they don't put her on such a pedestal and they would not switch to antis as easily as other fans who treat their vtubers as perfect and get hit by buyer's remorse hard when the vtuber does anything out of character.
Poma would need to go out of her way to intentionally ruin her relationship with her fans, but she won't. Because she has legit abandonment issues and trauma so she actually really craves the approval of her fanbase and wants their love as much as they want hers.
