It's under 2hrs long, and it's currently available as a free official upload on YouTube. It might be a wee bit in media res, but all you really need to know is that Amuro is the main character who pilots the Gundam; the original Gundam was kinda monster-of-the-week-y in many spots, including the original Doan's Island episode, so jumping in here is probably fine.
