Guys, it says streaming/Content. This is not about streaming alone. This includes covers which could reach up to a million yen at least if you want it to be good quality like the Mind Craft cover from bae. It would be even more expensive if it was an original song which would probably reach an average of 5 million depending on the names involved in its production.

To clarify it further, vtuber contents that are not from streams (MVs, original song, Lore videos. etc) would always result into red. You can barely call it an investment even if it reaches 1M views with how expensive it is to make a good MV. Only Suisei can actually say that she makes profit from her MV. Even Marine who has that much views on her MVs probably did not make any profit from them with how expensive it must have been to make an MV of that quality. Great advertisement - yes, but not exactly profitable.

Concerts have lower cost/investment ratio because Cover uses their own equipment and own people for these things while contents like lore crafting and MVs would require them to commission other artists which would cost more.

Lastly, Concerts/Events include Hololive Expo which is literally one of the biggest money maker.

It's not all about livestreaming these days.

Cover found the balance that their profit no longer relies heavily on how well or how many streams are. Obviously low-profile talents need to continue streaming to get more fans and exposure, but once they reach certain level of fame, streaming is no longer their main income. Suisei CCV will never be as big as Pekora's, and she turned off superchats, but her albums and concerts will definitely sell a lot more

Assuming by "they" you meant Holo talents - They don't have totally full control, but they do. Way more than if those projects are fully funded by Cover.
Of course, doing it by yourself on rm gives you full control of everything, but in exchange you will have to fund everything (and spend more money than the other options due to tax, if nothing else) and handle everything by yourself.
Taking advances from Cover puts the talents in the middle and most of them are comfortable with it.
