My family had broadband really early on because my parents are nerds. My mom was a heavy BBS user, and my dad tried (and unfortunately failed) to start an ISP business in 1999.
They were just beginning to phase out the exact program you're describing by the time I was starting middle school. We didn't have Macs, but we did have a bunch of Presarios with Encarta installed on them. Our class was also the last one to have to take typing classes in high school.
Interestingly, the gifted and talented program I was in as a kid also just recycled all of the Apple //e computers that they had lying around leftover from the late 1980s and put them in front of our faces, so those were also an oddly large presence in my childhood. Thanks for reading my blog.
