I think it's because of the monetization structure. Libraries and ad-supported TV aside, in all of those other cases you pay for each thing they make, you get the thing, you enjoy it, you hope for more thing so you can pay for and enjoy new thing. If there's no new thing, you don't feel cheated.

Streamers are donation-supported, and while in reality that means they owe you stone nothing, emotionally it creates much more of an expectation that your money will go towards ensuring they keep working. With vtubers the association with idol culture and the idea that you're supporting someone's dreams intensifies that emotion further.

And of course 'whaling' for vtubers is a thing in a way that it isn't for most other media. I imagine gacha/GAAS whales get pretty furious about games they spent a lot of money on going down, too.

NTA but the gaming community transcends /v/ in scope to the point that it's largely irrelevant. The VTuber fandom has yet to break apart from /vt/'s power and influence because it's so new and we as a board hold a firm grip on the industry itself.

That's a fucking lie. Nobody is calling the vtubers who truly quit lazy whores.
People are calling Gura a lazy whore because she didn't actually quit but only shows up every few months so people renew memberships and then fucks off. And she always love bombs her members and tells them she'll totaly release those projects soon.
Honestly I don't understand how there's People still willing to give her money.
