I had this pointlessly circular conversation with them where they defended anti-American sentiment in poor English and balked at the notion of being proud of one's cultural heritage. He accused me of having Paris syndrome for giving him flak for his poor English. I neglected to mention this at the time, but this amused me greatly seeing as I'm an Anglo-Saxon with family in England.
They also accused me of encouraging that people instead harbor xenophobic sentiments against countries that aren't the United States for merely pointing out that very few Americans truly deserve the ire aimed their way.
It was all a bit on the nose. I got the sense that I was speaking to a truly miserable and pathetic soul whose identity is formed more by what he isn't than by what he is.
