>>100874413yeah, it's definitely model and personality, but you can filter normies out easily with your interests; either as a vtuber or fan. see, i don't like or understand normie or normie queer culture. i initially blocked uki because i knew i'd hate his personality, but i've mellowed out and now i enjoy his presence. i liked it when ike brought up that he didn't understand why people called him gender, because i don't understand tiktok memes either. i don't care about people parroting whatever the meme of the month is. but management sees trendshit and think they need to copy it as a business strategy when memes are 100% luck and time and place. zanny mentioned this the other day, but where is lil nas x? businesses need stability but they're trying to be popular, and unless you have an absurd amount of money, you can't have continuous influence on culture. you need to find places where people are begging and deliver that product to them in a heartfelt way. the otome and yaoi BLCD genres are basically dead, but there's thousands of autistic starving artists who would jump at the chance to deliver good, authentic shit to fellow fans and just need some resources a company can provide.
a lot of people think you can get a new oshi after your old one retires, but if they aren't a trendshitter, then you can't. there will never be anybody like ike, but i can find at least 50 boys playing valorant with the same sense of awkward humor. producing timeless art and the value of that is something management will never understand.
we need the virtual equivalent to
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fuck_Off_(art_exhibition)fuuchan's community was already in place before archivist's debut, and we were all loyal sheep. i'll be honest that i didn't like archivist's rendering despite loving grey-haired oyaji with ponytails, but overall lam mama's designs are a miss for me, i didn't like legatus's second outfit either. but an outfit isn't going to filter loyal fans.
zanny is an ikemen to me.
on paper i should be a koipanion, there's nothing wrong with him. i thought i'd might oshi him one day on debut but i need disturbed, maladjusted individuals and shinri is too healthy.
gibby is the same, i don't enjoy his personality.
ruze filtered me with his anti-loli shit, i know that it translates to anti-shota where i'd like him otherwise.all but two of the vtubers i've liked because of their models have been duds. they're talked about time and again for this reason, but kyo and aster might be the biggest flops for me since i was expecting cute bubbly slightly-too-old shotas from the previews and got... those.
i still think models do a job of filtering. for a very recent example: while they're both ikemen, kaelix has an 18k lead on zeal because kaelix has a meme model, that's some small corpos' entire sub count. bigger numbers mean shittier chats, unless you're very anal about whipping your fanbase into shape, and only a handful are.
i think vtubers are trying to show their appreciation to the audience, and often lesbian fans have the biggest projects and are the most active chatters. sorta like how avaletter is run entirely by lesbians, or was last time i saw it. but it comes off as awkward and charmless because they're almost all straight guys repeating popular memes.
tbdesu i'm gay so i like that they don't specify the listener's gender since 9/10 times i'm not the target audience in traditional male enjoyer media, but if you're wanting something more personalized, i can understand how that would be disappointing.
