>>10214203Hololive is not a "monopoly" in any meaningful definition of the word (hint: it's not simply a substitute for "biggest firm" or whatever), because Hololive is not the only provider of vtubers, and customers (viewers) have infinite choices and can simply watch someone else if they wanted, unlike other actual captive-market monopolies.
I sympathize with the thought that there are sometimes "better" and more entertaining indie vtubers out there, who're toiling away in relative obscurity, while many of Hololive's more underwhelming talents are mostly carried by the groups' brand buff alone and if you take that away they'd be doing worse than the better indies. But again this only leads to fruitless discussions about "deserving" and who does/doesn't deserve what, which always makes people sound like a jelly bitch and, in terms of the threads topic, isn't Hololive's "fault" anyway and not their responsibility to solve.
>>10225070This also - most of the smaller startups don't seem to try anything different or have any other aspirations than being a "discount Hololive", imitating the whole presentation and format right down to having "generations", etc. and hope they'll catch enough of the scraps falling from the big boy table to survive and grow. It seems uninspired and cargo culty in a way ("hey, if we just try to copy Hololive, we're sure to be just as successful as them, right?"). I mean I can understand that new entrants look at the industry leader and think this is the "proven model" for everyone to follow, but fail to understand it only works for the first mover and not for the dozen imitators, because most people would rather stick to the original if you don't have anything else new to offer yourself. They should more lean into their "strengths" of being able to do things that can't be done in Hololive, but they're maybe not daring or creative enough.
>>10245387>Don't care. They're a self-sustaining system at this point. They don't need outside collabs.Yeah, OP doesn't seem to understand he basically makes the argument that the outside vtuber ecosystem is apparently so weak that they'd NEED Hololive collabs to survive. That makes Hololive sound more important than it really is, vtubing has existed before Holo and vtubing will exist after Holo.
