Corpos in general have a vested interest in disparaging any talents that decide to go indie.
There are also indie talents, and fans of indie talents, that see the audience as a zero sum game, like the only way they can grow their oshi's popularlity is by convincing other people to abandon the chuubas they watch, which isn't true at all, and they probably know that deep down, but it serves as a good excuse to be a sociopath online.
Which is ultimately what it boils down to: it's all an excuse to fight little battles. They got bored of vtubers a long time ago, they're only interested in /vt/ pvp.
This is why the tower thrives.
