Either that or they've taken millions out of the company as profit. If it's the latter and the profit they made was gotten illegally (not paying their talents or 3rd parties, stealing donations) it's not just declaring bankruptcy but their personal is at risk as well.
Reason they were paying their staff but not their talents seems to be that the talents were hired as contractors and not employees, making the process of demanding payment and suing them harder. Still illegal though and since they're based in California if they dont settle they're gonna get taken and lose in court. Fucking with charity money and in addition fucking with tax money (if they wrote off charity money as tax deductible and then didn't pay it) will land you jail time.
