it felt a few years like idol had a shot at making it big since they had Rin etc blow up strangely-largely for just a rando small corpo girl, but god damn was that all squandered. I don't think phase will grow just by existing. it's been 5 years, a lot of ideas on what a vtuber can or should be, what is considered fresh content or not, have come and gone and been tried.
even girls with fucking immensely appealing personalities+voices like pillow aren't actually-growing much at fucking all. the whole scene is stagnant and has been for a little while already, given the pretty meh tepid reception to Justice last year. like why the fuck do you think vshojo was running on empty for like a year before finally collapsing this week? they didn't run out of money yesterday and had been trying wait out this boring period for a year and didn't figure out a way to motivate and excite people to really help dig them out of their hole. so they died in it.
it's hard to believe there will unironically be a next big thing anytime soon.
