This has been an extremely weak time for holoEN due to the gay little Japan arc shit. Cover obviously doesn't care, but to me it looks like scheduled sabotage. I can't help but imagine they do this to them on purpose so none of them have a chance to become big on their own and on their own time, so they never have a repeat of Gura ever again. They don't want an EN girl to surpass anyone from JP again and they don't want any one of them to get a big head and think of themselves as way too good to continue dealing with Cover, so obviously they wanna hammer down any of the nails that try to stick out, as it is common with japanese culture. Don't stand out, keep your head down and do what you're told and don't talk back to your superiors. Ever.
This all seems unnecessary, because it is. It's just their way to stop holoEN growth on purpose so they stay at a lower engagement level than JPs. It was never THIS bad in previous Japan arcs. Almost all of EN is at a full stop, they're not slick about it. I know just how petty and bitchy japanese corporations can be, they're scared of having another white girl graduation situation where they all know they can walk and do very well on their own. I assume this is also the reason why Cover really likes bilingual asians like Bae and IRyS to be around, expect more bilingual asians or just asians for EN5. The vshojo situation probably has them even more paranoid about it now since an entire corp just vanished but the employees are still independently streaming regardless since they own their IP, empowering the indie mindset even more which is bad for them since it would encourage anyone in holo already thinking about leaving to finally make the jump.
I love Hololive, but I fucking detest and have a borderline unhealthy hatred towards Cover itself since long before EN was ever a thing. Any sane person should, really. Just look at the EN's content and lack of streams. Unreal.
