Second part is true. Holo girls from earlier gens and Niji males collabed a lot.
There is also the fact Hololive's first breakout success was in China, and most early EN translations were done by the Chinese.

Yeah the idol bit came later. People spam that interview of yagoo in an interview but it's bs. There's even a memory holed clip of Lamy talking about how hololive never had any regulations about relationships long before the company finally stated it. They didn't know what they wanted to be they were just trying stuff until they found an angle to sell.

Nijisanji and Hololive, along with many others liek 774 and indies like Gorilla used to collab with each other freely all the time and many of the talents where at least on good terms with each other or even friends

Hololive was the underdog at the start, that's the whole point behind Sora's christmas miracle stream. And yeah, they used to do male collabs and try to collaborate with Niji (and many other more popular agencies) when they were still growing. Gen 3 was Hololive's true big break and undoubtedly the most important generation for the company, Marine is absurdly popular in Japan to this day, Pekora is the literal biggest female streamer in the world by viewtime and Rushia once stood as Hololive's top earner for years. It really isn't that strange, the girls still collab with Niji girls pretty often. There's not that big of a fanbase rivalry on the Japanese side when compared to how antagonistic the EN fanbases are.

Pekora hasn't even been sniffing the greats in Hololive for a while but in fairness, all the more popular members have been there longer. It's not like someone's joined after Gen 3 that has ever been successful as an individual. The later gens are only popular as Holos in their units and gens and duos, etc.

Hololive was originally the name of Cover's app.
Then they launched a vtuber group with the same name and discontinued the app. Said vtuber was basically just copying Nijisanji until they decided to try the whole idol thing. Eventually the copy surpassed the original.
