>>103669660When vtubing first started with Kizuna Ai it was a lot of short-form video content. She and others like Kaguya Luna were seen as some weird anime-idol hybrid, kind of like a vocaloid but different. Discussion was slow enough that /jp/ was a good place for it.
Then COVID happened and people started discovering Hololive through things like the Nigga~ clips from GTAV or the Korone Engrish streams which brought a ton of attention and then the vtuber general got way too fast for /jp/. There were old vtubers back then (Mira Pink, Sachiowo, Yuikaichan, Natsumi Moe kind of, Comdost, etc.) on Twitch but it was basically a weird hobbyist thing like VRC/FaceRig with extra steps, and not a proper "career" like it's seen now.
/jp/ being Japanese elitist did not accept these people, so they started trying to post on different boards like /v/ and so on until the Western VTuber fans settled on /trash/ since basically anything is allowed there.
Around this time Melody made a big name for herself because she pissed off camwhores who were mad an anime girl was stealing the spotlight. There were enough fans of Melody on 4chan to create a general but rather than /jp/ or /h/ (who also have rules against non-JP stuff) the place we were able to make threads that didn't get deleted by trigger happy mods was /aco/. That general was Project Melody (and Friends) General AKA /pmg/. It started as a lewdtuber general where Mel was at the center but people like Nyan, Silver and Vei were way more interesting than the jankie modeled trans chuubas who would self-post there. With VShojo being splintered, Melody looking guilty, you'd think /pmg/ would be loving all these lewdtubers like Alekirser, Menace, Coqui, Bao, Cottontail, etc. but they kind of focus more on the old guard like... well I could list names but no snackers are going to know who people like OppaiPantsuu are kek.
/lig/ nowadays looks like a carbon copy of /wvt/ with all the schizos and small vtubers being linked with zero stream discussion, but originally /pmg/ kind of functioned as the blueprint for /vsj+/ and /lig/, it's just that /vt/ didn't even exist at the time.
Speaking of, I even remember Veibae streaming and being in a shit mood the day /vt/ was created and when people asked her why she said
>bro they ruined 4chan...because people were trying to push /pmg/ onto /vt/ which was just a bunch of vtuber Disney adults AKA Hololive fans who hated everything that wasn't Holo and would raid threads constantly at the beginning of /vt/.
