I believe that people forget nowadays, maybe because there are so many younger vtuber fans, but Nyanners is sort of the prototype/template for what vtubers (and anime-adjacent streamers) are in the west. And she doesn't really get the credit she deserves. Without her you certainly don't have Gura, and without Gura you don't have countless others. I find the parallel between her and Gura is pretty interesting: they both have insanely keen comedic sensibilities and cleverness, far beyond any peers, but Nyanners decided to lean into the absurdism while Gura leaned into being a more palatable personality and less experimental. Gura also edged her out because she was smart enough to never get political, and she knew how to sell out the RIGHT way. And most importantly, she was simply cuter. But even though she was totally bested by her protege, there would not be a Gura/Saba without Nyanners.
