Dramafags have always been around, a huge chunk of people "follow" vtubing but literally don't actually watch them, they're just obsessed with the concept or community for some bizarre reason, I guess it's just a cultural locust thing.
What did change is that we actually get more and more actual drama these days. It's not even just an "oh it's more visible now" thing, there literally is just more. First Niji, then Indies with their google dockey spam, then Vshojo.
