also with Gura and Ame specifically their character designs just had a perfect simplistic iconic quality to them, especially Gura, that is really unmatched in most of vtubing. The simple and 'soft' moe-ness factor and mascot-like aspect are things that are massively overlooked in the majority of vtubing and a chuuba's success.
Basically, the more a chuuba looks like a character from from something like Madoka Magica or GochiUsa as opposed to some gacha game or Final Fantasy, the better chances they have to be way more succesful. Color coordination, symmetry and minimalism are everything when it comes to such character designs, especially if they're gonna be moving around a lot and especially if it fits 1:1 with the personality and voice of the chuuba.
Ame just LOOKS exactly like her character concept + that personality and voice/mannerisms is supposed to look like and Gura is this x100. GG is somewhat overly designed but still looks like she sounds, which is why you find her enjoyable even if you don't realize it.
