This could be in the form of the missing father figure, who is often a deadbeat dad, thus turning the kid into a dumbass, like father like son. Either a lack of disciplinary action from the mother, because she's incapable compared to men, or an over-reaction by the mother, which now that the child is an adult, he is free to be as violent as his mom was.
