I can't get into German vtubers like Kiara and Cecilia because they remind me of all the German girls in middle school and high school who ignored or bullied me.
Their speech mannerisms are way too close to what I am used to when listening to real-life German girls.
I want to emphasize this, us ESLs, we love foreign media because it doesn't feel serious to us.
It's an enhanced form of escapism, English media just doesn't feel very personal so we can tolerate a lot more about it than we can our native media.
So whenever I listen to Ceci's or Kiara's German speech mannerisms, flat humor, ESLisms, etc. I get put out of the experience.
