Let's be real here. Vtuber "lore" fucking sucks. "Yeah I'm actually a cat demon from the 9th circle of hell" and does nothing else with it beyond some thematic orisongs and evil looking stream layout. I roll my eyes every time any of the Justice girls make call-backs to their isekai origins like calling Japan "The Far East" and then proceed to act like regular streamers 99% of the rest of the time. Even Kizuna Ai herself would just go "I'm a virtual girl tee hee" and then nothing else would come of it.

Generally speaking (since there's always exceptions both ways), western vtubing has it's roots far more in regular streaming culture, and less in the kawaii idol fantasy bullshit that Japanese vtubers do. In the west a fake baby voice is just as likely to be seen as cringe as it is cute or "immersive".
The 'fantasy' of trying to keep up any pretense that you're an actual cat girl or whatever the fuck matters far less. There's less focus on actively fostering a kind of romantic attachment from the audience to the streamer. And relatedly, this is also why western vtuber audiences generally care far less about collabs involving men.

This is why I enjoy watching HoloJP members like Korone or Subaru - because they're just loud, entertaining and funny chaos gremlins on stream - but I could not give less of a fuck about their 'idol' activities.
