It would have been easy for the suits to convince Elira that choosing not to do the black screen could be interpreted as "illegal" under those laws, and that she could face three years in prison for not being the company's mouthpiece - doubly so if they told her this before she had a chance to confirm with a Japanese criminal defense attorney whether or not they were telling her the truth, and triply so if they told her that the act of talking to an attorney is itself grounds for immediate termination (and which had actually been mentioned in the termination notice)
