When the cull hit and desktop vod views also got hit hard, youtubers were saying that despite the significant drop in views ad revenue didn't change. Because those views that got culled weren't seeing ads anyway.
So despite originally being included in total views youtube already differentiated and filtered them in some way.
But yeah the engine definitely adds vod views to the count. That was pretty conclusive from the early days of the engine, one of the reasons anons thought it was a view farm rather then bots.
