The instant she revealed that she used to be Predator/Top500 Overwatch, she got tons of retards either using her to cause shit in other people's chats saying "Oh man Selen's way better than your shitty ass" or anti-ing her and calling her a boosted bitch in response.
She couldn't handle the pressure back then and set up the kill race to sort of make it clear that she can't live up to those kinds of expectations.
It was a stupid idea, but it's what she did.
For her, tournaments and ranked are just fun. She likes doing them. Winning's great and all, but she just loves the grind.
Hell, other marvel pros/streamers would be baffled that she actually plays and grinds rank in Rivals on her own without streaming. She considers herself casual and a decently good player, but she has no dreams to go pro or expectations that she's on the same level of consistency as the pro players.
Granted, after leaving Niji she's been able to relax more and focus on trying to actually win in events (which she has been doing), but it's still just a fun game she likes and wants to play with others first and foremost without the pressure of rabid esports fans hyping her up/tearing her down.
I don't know how I can explain it more clearly than this.
