You will not succeed in appropriating the cradles of civilization and culture. Mediterraneans are superior to Europeans in every way, shape and form. Europeans were no better off than sub-Saharan Africans before Mediterraneans graced them with civilization and culture.
To call a Mediterranean a "European" is a grave insult, and shows a subconscious inferiority; you must claim Mediterraneans as your own, for otherwise you are nothing.
